A Poetical Rhapsody was a 17th-century anthology of English poetry edited by Francis Davison.

History[]

The 1st edition of the Poetical Rhapsody was published in 1602. Subsequent editions were published in 1608, 1611, and 1621.[1]

"A.W."[]

In the printed editions, a single poem (No. 9) is credited to A.W.[1] However, the Harleian Manuscript contains a "Catalogue of All the Poems in Ryme and Measured Verse by A.W." which contains no fewer than 76 poems: No. 9, 67 of the 69 poems that were listed as "Anomos" (anonymous) in the 1st edition, 7 that appeared (also as Anonymous) in the 2nd edition), and 1 (No. 181) that also appeared in the second edition but attributed to Francis Davison.[1]
