Robert Warren "Beau" Cutts (September 23, 1946 - September. 11 2013) was an American poet and journalist.
Life[]
Cutts was born in Athens, Georgia, on September 23, 1946, the son of Evelyn Augusta (Creighton) and William Gibson Cutts, Sr.[1]
Beau Cutts studied journalism at Georgia State University. Even before graduating (in the late 1960s), he was working for the Marietta Daily Journal.[2]
He left the Marietta paper to join the Atlanta Constitution, where he worked until the late 1980s. Altogether, he worked as a journalist for 40 years.[2]
He and his wife, Carol Cutts, divorced in 1998 after 33 years of marriage, but lived with his former wife in Flowery Branch, Georgia, for the last decade of his life.[2]
He died September 11, 2013, age 66, from complications of diabetes and cardiac issues.[2]
Writing[]
The only collection of poetry he published was The Night is a Rare Place, and other poems. The book was reprinted 4 times, and went through 4 more editions (each one revised by the poet). It went on to be an assigned text in college classrooms, where it was used to teach environmental advocacy and critical thinking.[3]
Recognition[]
Cutts was named Georgia Poet of the Year in 2006.[3]
