Elaine Feeney (born 1979) is an Irish poet.[1]

Life[]

Youth and education[]

Feeney was born in Galway, and grew up on a farm in Athenry, co. Galway.[2]

She went to Scoil Croi Naofa, Athenry, a school she disparages in The Radio was Gospel.[2]

She studied English and history at University College Galway and completed postgraduate study at University College Cork and University of Limerick.[1]

Career[]

She lives in Athenry with her husband, Ray Glasheen, and their 2 sons. She teaches English at St. Jarlath’s Secondary School in Tuam, co. Galway.[3]

She has authored 3 collections of poetry, and recorded an audio collection of her work. Her poetry has been broadcast on RTE radio and television, published in numerous magazines including The SHOp and The Stinging Fly, and translated into Italian, Slovene and Lithuanian.[3]

She has performed at various literature and music festivals including the Cúirt International Literature Festival, The Ex-Border Festival in Italy, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Vilenica Festival and The Electric Picnic. She was the Over The Edge poetry Competition judge in 2011 and NUIG’s Sin Poetry Competition judge in 2013.[3]

She is considered to be among the "most provocative female poets to come out of Ireland in the last decade". (Fionnaula Flanagan - 2013 - California)

Recognition[]

She won the Cúirt International Festival of Literature Grand Slam in 2008.[4]
