Bob Hicok (born 1960) is an American poet and academic.

Life[]

Hicok was born in Grand Ledge, Michigan.[1]

Hicok worked for many years as an automotive die designer and a computer system administrator. He began teaching in 2002, and received an M.F.A. from Vermont College in 2004.[1]

He formerly taught at Western Michigan University.[2] He is an associate professor of creative writing at Virginia Tech.

His poems have appeared in the Southern Review, The New Yorker, Poetry, The Paris Review and the American Poetry Review, as well as in 4 volumes of The Best American Poetry and 3 times in the Pushcart Prize anthology.

Recognition[]

His 1st book of poetry, The Legend of Light (1995), won the Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry and was chosen as an American Library Association Booklist Notable Book of the Year.[1]

His 2001 Animal Soul was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.[3]

This Clumsy Living (2007) won othe 2008 Bobbitt Prize from the Library of Congress.[1]
