Jessie MacDonald was a Canadian.
Life[]
MacDonald was born and raised in Quebec. She graduated from McGill University, and then attended Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. At Radcliffe, in 1911 she met American poet Conrad Aiken.[1] MacDonald and Aiken married in 1912, and had 3 children – John (born 1913, Jane (born 1917), and Joan (born 1924) – all of whom would grow up to be successful novelists.[2]
Aiken and McDonald divorced in 1929. Macdonald then married English poet and novelist Martin Armstrong.[1] The two older children were sent to boarding school, while took MacDonald and the youngest, 5-year-old Joan to live at his home in the Sussex Downs.[3] MacDonald homeschooled Joan Aiken until she was 12, when she also was sent to boarding school.[1]
MacDonald never published a book.[1]
