My Country[]
Northern Wisconsin sunset, Day Lake, 2005. Photo by Kriz420. Courtesy Wikimedia Commons.
They were my people,
And this country was my country.
Deep ravines
Send strange shadows into the valley.
Rock ridges
Bulwark returning ferns and flowers.
Rock towers
Watch the invading shadows.
Hills mother children.
Hills watch while children sleep.
Fathomed in coulees,
The spirit water-falls
Say all there is to say.
