Peter Minter (born 1967) is an Australian poet.[1]

Life[]

Minter was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, and grew up in nearby Swansea. As a teenager he moved with his family to Quorrobolong in the Hudson Valley; he considers this move from seacoast to bush an important catalyst in developing his interest in writing.[1]

He began publishing poetry in local newspapers at 17. While still in high school he attended the University of Newcastle's Morpeth poetry camps, where he worked with Norman and Jean Talbot.[2]

He lived for a year in Japan after graduating from secondary school, then enrolled at the University of Sydney where he studied English Literature, Philosophy, and Japanese.[1]

He works at the University of Sydney, where he is the co-ordinator of the Indigenous Australian Studies Major and of Honours in Indigenous Australian Studies.[3]
