- Not to be confused with Poets' Corner (Westminster Abbey).
by George J. Dance
Poets' Corner is an online library of poetry, containing roughly 7,000 poems.
About[]
Poets' Corner was begun in 1994 "as an experiment, grew into a pastime,... and has become a substantial resource for those who enjoy or study poetry of all types, and appreciate the accessibility provided by the Web." It now contains roughly 7,000 poems by 800 different poets, ranging in length from sundial inscriptions to book-length works. Many of the poems have added commentary.[1]
It is hosted by The Other Pages, a website which hosts pages of content on writing, quotations, photographic images, and music.[2]
The Poets' Corner website is maintained by four volunteer editors: Bob Blair of Killeen, Texas; John Lachelt of Fort Collins, Colorado; Howard (Nelson) Miller of Macon, Georgia; and Steve Spanoudis of Coral Springs, Florida. Their efforts are backed up by a team of 40 volunteers who contribute poetry,[3]
The site is non-commercial, carrying no advertising. For that reason, there is no budget for licensing poetry; consequently, virtually all of the poetry is public domain (under the Copyrigright law of the United States, meaning in most cases that it was published before 1923).
Additional features of the site include "Lives of the Poets," a new (as yet incomplete) series of biographies of poets; and "Faces of the Poets," a photo gallery.[4]
