Robin Reay Cuscaden [1] (March 13, 1931 - March 22, 2005)[2] was an American poet.
Life[]
Cuscaden was born about 1931; his father, Henry,and his mother, Irvin, were both 21 years old. At the time of the 1940 census, he was 9 years old and lived in Wheeling, Illinois, with his parents and brother, Michael.[3]
With Ron Offen, Cuscaden was the co-editor of Mainstream: A quarterly journal of poetry (1957), an early publisher of Richard Brautigan. Offen and Cuscaden were also co-editors of Odyssey: Explorations in contemporary poetry and the arts (1958-1959), which published the early work of Charles Bukowski, LeRoi Jones, David Ray, and others.[4]
In the early 1960s Cuscaden edited the literary magazine Midwest: A magazine of poetry and opinion, contributors to which included Bukowski, Robert Bly, Cid Corman, Marvin Bell, and Lucien Stryk.[5] Operating out of Chicago, he also published a chapbook series, Midwest Poetry Chapbooks, that included Bukowski's Run with the Hunted (1962).[6]
