Rik Roots is an English poet and novelist.
Life[]
Youth and education[]
Roots was born in Dymchurch. Kent, England. He lived there for the first 24 years of his life, except for 6 terms at the North East Surrey College of Technology. He has a 2:1 Open Honours degree in computing and English from Open University.[1]
He began writing poetry when he was 14 or 15, though all of his work from that time was later destroyed in a kitchen fire.[1]
Career[]
For a time he worked as a civil servant.[1]
He was a part of the group that established Magma poetry magazine, and he edited issue 6. He left the magazine's management board a few weeks before Magma 7 was published. His main publishing credentials are, ironically, in Magma.[1]
Latterly he rarely submits poems to journals, but writes to his poetry website, the RikVerse.[1]
He has also completed and self-published a science fiction novel, and is working on another. He calls his civil service background "a perfect training ground for people wanting to write novels based on alternate realities and fantasy."[1]
He lives in London with his partner, Nigel, and their 2 cats.[2]
