Rodney Theodore Torreson [1] (born 1951) is an American poet.[2]
Life[]
Torreson grew up on a farm in Iowa. He earned an M.F.A. at Western Michigan University.[3]
He has taught writing to elementary and intermediate grades at Immanuel-St. James Lutheran School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, since 1976. He also heads several groups of young writers who meet weekly.[2]
Torreson lives in Grand Rapids. He and his wife Paulette have 3 children: Tasha, Ted, and Travis.[4]
In 2008 Torreson and some of his students launched Through the Third Eye, an online poetry magazine by and for youth.[2]
Recognition[]
Torreson was awarded the Bentley Prize for Poetry from the Seattle Review.[2]
He served as Poet Laureate of Grand Rapids.[2]
