Rosalie M. Jonas (?1861-1953) was an African-American poet and story writer, who was a well-respected figure in the Harlem Renaissance.[1]

Life[]

Little is known of Jonas's early life. She lived for some time in New Orleans, as letters she wrote later mention the "octoroon" balls of that town. Her earliest published poem, "Little Mammy", appeared in Harper's Magazine in 1898, and her earliest story, "New York Light and Shadow," in Art World in 1917. During the 1920s she lived in Harlem, New York City, and continued to publish in major magazines, including McClure's Magazine, The Century Magazine, and Smart Set.[1]
