World poetry is used on Penny's Poetry Pages as a generic term to designate poetry written in other than the English language. Poetry appears in every written language, and through the years the poetry of many other languages has influenced that of English through both imitation and translation. So while our goal is only to comprehensively cover English-language poetry, we believe that cannot be done without some account of the poetry of other languages.
